Memberships last for one calendar year unless renewed. The current rates are:
- Adult – £18
- Family (up to 4 members, normally at the same postal address) – £24
- Junior (under 18) – £3. Junior members on their own are entitled to bring their guardians to talks and other events. (In fact, they must)
These details are stored for each membership:
- first-name, last-name
- email-address
- postal-address, post-code
- membership-type
- expiry-date
Members’ details are carefully protected, and only shared by the Membership Secretary with other officers of the Society if absolutely necessary for them to perform their rôles. For efficient operation of the Society your details are retained unless you specifically ask us to delete them.
Membership cards are not necessary but you can pick one up at a lecture or event if you want.
Membership forms are not necessary but you can download one here. When you fill this in please write as clearly as possible. If we can’t read your details we may not be able to communicate with you.
Payment for new memberships and renewals can be made in the following ways:
- Online via PayPal here. This is the most convenient way for you and for CAS. You can use your PayPal account if you have one, or a credit or debit card. PayPal sends us an email with the details you provide when making the payment. If these are different from your membership details please let us know at this email address.
- By cheque sent to the postal address shown on the membership form. When you fill this in please write as clearly as possible. If we can’t read your details we can’t communicate with you.
- With cash at a lecture or other event.
- By Zettle at a lecture or other event.
Communication is normally by email.
Individual messages are sent to the email address you provide from membership.secretary@cardiff-astronomical-society.co.uk.
Please check your spam folder if you don’t hear from us, particularly if you are a new member, or have just changed your address
These are the messages you will receive:
- New member welcome. When you take out a new membership.
- Renewal reminder. When your membership will expire within 21 days.
- Renewal acknowledgement. When you have paid to renew your membership.
- Overdue notice. When your membership expired 21 days ago.
- Personal details. Details we hold about you. This is sent when you have asked us to change something.
Bulk emails are sent to all members using the Mailchimp email marketing system. New members are automatically subscribed when they join, but you can always unsubscribe by asking membership.secretary@cardiff-astronomical-society.co.uk, or clicking the link at the bottom of any Mailchimp message.
These are the bulk messages you will receive from various Society officers:
- Invitation to lecture. Normally sent out a few days in advance
- Notice of AGM. Once a year. Occasionally there are EGMs
- Notice of trips and other social events
Trial membership. Prospective members can attend a couple of talks or other sessions before deciding to join.
Gift Aid. If you pay sufficient tax you can ask CAS to reclaim 25% of your subscription by making a Gift Aid declaration.
